    ARTS MAJOR CHANGE REQUEST FORM

The Arts Major Change Request Form is open during two designated windows:
    • Third Quarter Freshman (9th grade) Year.  Once students have successfully completed two quarters (one semester) in their current Major, they are permitted to request a change of major. Students wishing to change Arts Majors should opt-into Quarter 3 classes of the art form they wish to switch into, and if their request is approved, they will remain in their new major for Quarter 4, and must audition for their new major at the end of their Freshman year*.
    • August/September of Sophomore (10th grade) Year. This window is the latest that a student can apply to make a change to their Arts Major, and a student asking to switch now needs a good reason why they didn’t request to switch the previous year. If their request is approved, they will move into their new major for Quarter 1 and the duration of their sophomore year, and must audition for their new major at the end of their Sophomore year*.
*Please note: 9th and 10th grade students are held to a higher audition standard than those who audition in grade 8.

FAQ's About Arts Major Change Requests:
    • Why do I have to wait until Q3 of my Freshman year to change my major?  You have to spend Q1 and Q2 in the arts major you auditioned for, in order to get the full TAPA arts experience and to determine that TAPA is the right fit for you at all. You can apply to change majors during the Minor Quarter (Q3) so that we can ask the new teacher if they think you’d be successful there. Note: Requests for earlier Arts Major changes will be considered very rarely, on a case-by-case basis.
    •  Why can’t I apply after September of my sophomore year to change my major?Applying after Q1 Sophomore year would require you to be left back and have to repeat classes in order to graduate. We don't allow students to make class changes that would prevent them from completing high school in four years.

    How Requests Are Considered
    • Quality of your writing: have you used capital letters and punctuation - have a trusted adult proofread your application!
    • Switches are made for academic and artistic reasons.  If you are experiencing a social or behavioral issue with a peer, please inform a trusted staff member who can help you solve the problem with the support of the Admin team.  Because of TAPA's small size, we typically do not address social or behavioral issues with class changes.
    • We will be checking with your current teacher regarding your behavior and effort in your current arts major.  If work completion or behavior is an issue, that will reduce the chances of a change being approved.
